Interview with Elle Mackenzie

How did you become a writer? I've been a lifelong reader, but I began writing at age ten when I read Harry Potter. I loved to write fan fiction of the work that inspired me and eventually that morphed into making my own stories!

What inspires you to write? Music. Almost always music.

How do you develop your plot and characters? The characters always come first along with their personal stories and then their locations and relationships. The plot is almost always me taking one microcosm of their lives and writing it down.

Could you share some of your challenges as a writer? Comma placement.

Tell me about your protagonist. What's your favorite trait and/or weakness? I had to be complicated so my novel has SIX protagonists! I like that they are all so flawed that they are relatable.

How does your antagonist create conflict? Infiltrating the enemy *wink wink*

What are your current/future projects? I have a duology about relic seeking sister witches and another about a pair of polar opposites lost in the jungle.

Do you have a routine you follow when writing? Yes. Candles, tea, music.

If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be? Don't be in a hurry. Everything works out exactly as it is supposed to.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers? Write. Now keep writing.
