Author Interview- Haley Warrington
How did you become a writer?
I became a writer after a second-grade project. We were all told to write a story near and dear to our hearts, and being the small child I was, I wrote about the time I was courageous enough to jump off the ladder into a pool. I won first place (which, thinking back, it probably wasn’t really a competition), and that launched my love of writing.
Tell me about your protagonist. What’s your favorite trait and/or weakness?
Genevieve Folsom is the main character in my novel, ROSE THORNS BETWEEN US. She’s a dynamic character, really, from the beginning of the novel until the end. My favorite trait about her is how she’s unafraid to be herself. No matter what, she’s always true to who she is, and that’s a very admirable quality! Although, a weakness she has is that she’s quite pessimistic, at least for the first half of the book. She doesn’t believe second chances exist…yet.
What are your current/future projects?
A future project I’m really excited about is untitled thus far, and is more vibes than plot, but it’s going to be a very fun book to write. Essentially, it’s a sapphic fantasy romance involving two queens, wars that span lifetimes, and of course, a mistake that could change their courses forever.
If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be?
Don’t rush! Good things do happen, but they take time! My biggest problem in life has always been my patience, and in an industry like this…patience is most definitely key.
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Take your time. Not everything will happen instantaneously, and that’s okay! We all have different journeys and we shouldn’t compare ourselves to others. Maintaining a positive mindset is so important, especially when querying. Mental health is the most important thing, and taking care of ourselves should always take priority over craft.
What is your preferred method for readers to get in touch with you?
I have a contact form on my website that goes directly to my email! I’m also very active on Twitter, and sort of active on Instagram. I’d love to connect with readers at any of those places!
