Interview with Jase Peeples

How did you become a writer?

My mother was a librarian and exposed me to reading books at a very early age. I fell in love with storytelling and from the time I was old enough to write, I began writing my own stories. In fact, I used to drive some of my elementary school teachers crazy because I would be working on my own writing in class instead of doing my actual assignments.

What inspires you to write?

As a YA author, I’m passionate about writing the kind of stories I wished were available to me when I was younger, narratives that prominently showcase the experiences of LGBTQ+ characters.

Do you have a routine you follow when writing?

Absolutely. I don’t think I could ever finish a book if I didn’t stick to a routine. I’ve found what works best for me is getting up early and dedicating a few hours to writing each morning.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Read widely to broaden your perspective, join writing communities for support, and learn from rejections. Cultivate your unique voice, set realistic goals, and stay persistent. Believe in your abilities and enjoy the creative journey.
